What Makes Our Dry Eye Treatment Different?

Dry eye is a widespread issue that many people experience but often overlook. It can be especially prevalent during warmer months.

We’re proud to be one of the only optometry clinics in the region, trialing new, state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to better understand and treat dry, itchy eyes and reshape dry eye care in Ontario.

Topcon MYAH: next-level dry eye diagnosis

Patient undergoing eye assessment with advanced equipment

First up is the Topcon MYAH – an advanced diagnostic tool that takes dry eye therapy to a new level.

This state-of-the-art technology enables us to analyse your tear film and eyelid function with exceptional detail, providing a level of precision that few opticians can offer, all while ensuring a comfortable and non-invasive experience.

Features:

Non-Invasive Tear Break-Up Time (NIBUT): Measures how long your tears stay intact before evaporating, showing how well they provide the moisture necessary to protect your eyes.

Tear Meniscus Height Measurement: Uses a high-resolution camera to capture and assess tear volume along the lower eyelid margin to see whether your tear film is stable and how much it is producing. This allows us to determine the effectiveness of dry eye treatment and tailor it further to alleviate your symptoms.

High-Resolution Meibography: Captures detailed images of the meibomian glands, which produce the all-important oil layer of your tears. Blockages here often lead to dry, itchy eyes.

Blink Analysis: Monitors blink frequency and completeness, since partial blinks can leave areas of the eye dry as they don’t spread tears adequately across the surface.

The MYAH also generates a clear summary report, helping us track progress and personalize treatment based on your individual needs.

TearCheck by I-MED: fast, precise, and insightful

We’re also trialing TearCheck by I-MED, a powerful automatic screening device that performs nine non-invasive dry eye tests in under 10 minutes. Designed for speed and accuracy, it helps identify common and overlooked causes of dry eye.

Features:

Tear Film Stability Evaluation (TFSE®): Checks how long your tears last before evaporating.

Inflammation Detection (OSIE®): Spots surface irritation that may go unnoticed.

2D & 3D Meibography: Visualizes oil glands that keep tears from drying too quickly.

Tear Volume Measurement: Assesses how much tear fluid you naturally produce.

Blink Analysis & Demodex Detection: Identifies blinking issues and tiny mites that can cause discomfort.

TearCheck’s easy-to-use design and precise insights help us target root, and often subtle, causes of dry eye for lasting relief.

ZEST: gentle, effective relief for irritated eyes

Patient undergoing Zocular Eyelid System Treatment (ZEST)

Along with trialing new equipment to improve our services even further, we have also invested in the latest treatment to target your eyelid margins, which accounts for 80% of dry eye issues, since the launch of our specialist dry eye clinic at our locations.

ZEST (Zocular Eyelid System Treatment) is a comfortable, non-invasive procedure that gently cleanses the eyelid margins using a natural, okra-based solution. This deep cleaning helps treat blepharitis, a common problem caused by inflammation and buildup of bacteria, oil residue, dirt and dead skin, which can lead to demodex mites in your eyelash hair follicles.

ZEST supports healthy tear production and improves meibomian gland function, both essential for long-term dry eye relief. Many patients report improved ease and clarity when reading, working on screens, or spending time outdoors post-treatment.

Combined with our advanced diagnostics, ZEST can be an effective part of a personalized dry eye treatment plan.
